Day 7: Write Blog Posts That Rank (Start a Blog in 9 Days)
Create posts that bring traffic from day one.
Welcome to Day 7 of the Start a Blog in 9 Days Challenge.
How’s it going so far?
In case you missed the steps before:
Today, we continue the topic of SEO.
Let’s make one thing clear.
SEO doesn’t involve inserting keywords anywhere you like. You need to optimize your content by placing the right keywords in the right places if you want to know how to rank higher on Google.
By doing so, you’ll make your blog content more searchable by Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other search engines.
Here are some ways to make your content more search engine friendly:
1. Start with a Focus Keyword
Pick one main keyword or phrase for your post. This is what you want your post to rank for in search results. Naturally include it in:
The post title (H1)
At least one subheading (H2 or H3)
The first 100 words of your content
Your meta description
A few times throughout the text (without overdoing it)
2. Structure with Headings (H1, H2, H3)
Headings help break up your content and make it easier to scan. They also tell search engines what’s important in your post.
H1: This is your main title. Use it only once per post. It should include your focus keyword.
H2: Use these for main sections of your post. They should clearly describe what the section is about.
H3: Use these for sub-points within an H2 section.
Think of it like a book: H1 is the title, H2s are chapter titles, and H3s are subheadings inside each chapter.
3. Write for Humans First
Google rewards content that’s useful and easy to read. Keep sentences short, use bullet points, and break up big paragraphs. Include images, lists, and examples where possible.
4. Optimize Your Meta Description
Write a short summary (around 150–160 characters) that includes your keyword and entices people to click. This is what appears under your title in search results.
5. Link to Other Posts
Add internal links to other relevant posts on your blog. This keeps visitors on your site longer and helps search engines understand your content.
6. Add Alt Text to Images
Use descriptive text for images (with your keyword where it makes sense). This improves accessibility and helps with image search rankings.
7. End with a Strong CTA
Tell readers what to do next. Is it to sign up for your email list, read another post, or leave a comment?
More actions that will help you rank higher on Google
Meta Tags: Write compelling meta titles and descriptions that include keywords. These tags appear in search engine results and can significantly impact click-through rates.
Page Speed: Improve your website’s loading speed as slow websites can lead to higher bounce rates and lower search rankings.
Local SEO: If your blog has a local focus, optimize for local search by including location-specific keywords and creating a Google My Business profile.
Voice Search: Consider voice search optimization as more users are using voice-activated devices to search for information.
Technical SEO: Address technical aspects like sitemaps, schema markup, and robots.txt to help search engines index your content properly.
So that’s your quick SEO checklist. I hope you use it when publishing your first blog posts.
Final note for today
Content has always been the foundation of my business, the main way I grow my audience and build my brand, and what ultimately leads to the revenue that allows me to live the life I once only dreamed about. It’s all connected.
The topics I cover have changed over the years, the way I create and promote the content has evolved, I’ve tried different formats, I’ve experienced moments of low and high motivation levels, and so much more has happened. And yet, the content creation process never stopped.
There might have been big breaks. There might have been moments where I was more dedicated to one platform or content format and left the rest behind. And periods where I was more repurposing and updating old content rather than creating new pieces. But the magic was still happening, things were always moving, I was always teaching and sharing all I know about the topics that I deeply care about.
If you wanna learn more about all this, together with how to identify your target audience, choose the best platform and content format for you, create your content strategy, make your content magnetic and promote it with integrity and ease, you can check out my course Fearless Content.
It’s a program that will help you get clear on what’s no longer serving you and release it energetically, re-organize your whole business from a place of abundance, and achieve radical alignment in your content creation. As well as how to create more content in less time, overcome doubt and imposter syndrome, build your sales funnel and create content for each of its stages, and just let your content transform lives and become part of your legacy.
