I’ve not felt anything except positivity since I joined in April. I’ve found Substack to be a supportive community, where fellow writers are willing to help each other, see each other grow, and excited to collaborate on grander projects.
I love Substack, and can’t wait to see how it develops!
I read the original piece and I’ve just read yours and I agree with you that Substack is evolving and it still offers fantastic opportunities to writers, teachers and coaches in a supportive community where long form content is the focus, not dancing on camera. You are encouraging and I enjoyed this.
I mentioned only writers, but thank you for adding teachers and coaches to the conversation. This platform can benefit so many people, in different niches, from different walks of life, who have set up completely different businesses.

Great article Lidiya! It personally helps me to ask my readers different questions to know what are their goals, assets they are holding etc. Knowing your readers well and what drives them is key 🔑
I would have to say I agree with your perspective. I love Substack, my goal here from the beginning is the ability to connect with more people and share my writings. I love to wrire and connect and Substack is by far the best community for this. I turned on paid for anybody that wishes to support me, but honestly I am not going to put whatever together to sell unless I have genuine meaning to do so. This is a space where I share personal writings and want my posts to reach all the people possible. Paywalling for me would be a disservice. If and when I do have something genuine to offer I will, but I'm not relying on Substack for money. I rely on Substack for community and connections, and I would say I am reaching my goal with over 400 free subscribers. I get excited for free subscribers and those who choose to subscribe to me because they want to read my writings. I also appreciate followers too, as followers can also participate and engage.
I just read your article Lynda. Thank you so much for sharing! I actually saw the original article too and started to doubt the platform. It's refreshing to see a different perspective and a reminder that change is worth embracing and can lead to new opportunities. At the end of the day, I'm really enjoying it here, the positivity is such a nice change compared to other platforms, that alone makes it worth keeping going for me anyway.

I came to Substack because I have a purpose that goes beyond numbers, money or platforms. I only knew that here we have an opportunity to go deeper in a long form within a space that honours humanities. And by joining here, I started an experiment with the practicalities around what I want to say. I have written a book and that is so rewarding for me... But here I am back to school - about the whole new economy, the creative one. I am so grateful and so happy to meet new people, to learn about specifics in online business, to find kindred spirits. For me this is not death. It's a new chapter. Thank you, Lidiya for responding so proactively to an article I had no intention to read at all. 🤗
Honestly the original article is so doomsday lolz… when I see people making a real business out of writing my brain goes “if they can do it, so can I!” – it deconstructs an abstract idea into something tangible.
