Yes the insight on the notes is really valuable (entire interview was) as notes are really hyped and misinterpreted to work as the reels does for Instagram.
I have to say, this is a very interesting and insightful conversation. The part about doing it for fun and to be proud of yourself resonated with me. I also agree about the power of engagement. Substack feels great in the way that it allows people to interact and build communities.

That happens a lot yes, but it must also be related to the fact that you engaged with some, subscribed to publications talking about that, and then the algorithm gives you more of that.
If you were only reading and commenting on posts in the travel niche, for example, you’d see mostly that, and be introduced to new creators in that space.
So you have to train the algorithm to give you more of the other topics, I belive.

It’s great to read success stories and interviews, but I hope next time we find inspiring creators who became successful because they offer connection or growth in other ways aside from money and subscribers. I mean, instead of creators teaching how to be successful on Substack or blogging, creators who talk about other things like travel, tech, parenting, spirituality, etc. That would be amazing! Good point. One of the previous interviews is with Gertjan, who writes about investing (nothing Substack growth related).
The next interview is with a woman who writes about business + spirituality.
2 more are in the works where Substack growth is the theme again, but it must be because I’m so passionate about it, the algorithm shows me more of that, and these are the people I read, so I naturally pitch them for an interview.
Over time, I hope to share success stories from every niche, though ☺️

Exactly. Ever since I joined the platform, about 75% of posts I come across are about growing on Substack and… writing posts.
I honestly would much rather read about things that people genuinely enjoy.
